The Holman Prize has announced its prize winners for 2017. Congratulations to Ojok Simon, Penny Melville-Brown, and Ahmet Ustunel for their accomplishments. Ojok seeks to raise employment rates for blind and partially sighted individuals in rural regions of his home country of Uganda. Penny attempts to use food to connect people and cultures and to empower blind chefs around the world. Ahmet is taking on a daring kayak adventure across the Bosphorus Strait. I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. As a member of the Holman Prize committee, it was an honor to sit in on the selection process at the LightHouse in San Francisco this June. To learn about the blind individuals who each had such an emerging sense of adventure and can-do spirit was an inspiration to me and the blind community as a whole.
